About
As the third generation of a well-respected family jewelry business that dates back to 1927, Michael Kanners combines old world values with superior knowledge of craft and an extensive network built through decades of international travel and residency in such varying locales as London, Bologna and Monte Carlo.
With rare jewels and gemstones already in his DNA, Michael obtained a degree in philosophy from Colgate University before completing his studies as a Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America. His work experience began by apprenticing for a London dealer of antique jewelry, before returning stateside to work in the family business on New York’s 47th street- the very heart of the city’s historic Diamond District. Specializing in the wholesale trade of fine estate jewelry, he traveled extensively through the United States and Europe.
In time, Michael would relocate to Italy, where access to skilled local jewelry makers allowed him to transition from antique and estate jewelry to designing one-of-a-kind pieces and custom cufflinks. A full-page feature in Departures magazine was the first public recognition of his unique approach, and interest in Michael’s designs continues to soar.
Today Michael lives in Monte Carlo and continuously travels between Europe, Asia and the United States to secure the most unique stones and to tap into an enviable network of the finest stone cutters and goldsmiths the world has to offer.
A journey from philosophy to vintage jewelry to contemporary design has given Michael a resume like none other in the business—and ensures that his private clients receive custom-designed pieces that could never possibly have come from anywhere else. His loyal following of clients worldwide continue to appreciate the exceptional design and workmanship evident in every piece, as well as Michael’s personalized and dedicated service.
